Happy new Year!
With the advent of AI Ive been wondering what is going to happen to our industry? Will it be infiltrated by Alien Intruders?
Doing a little research, I can see that manufacturers are indeed integrating AI into their appliances and the aim is to turn our appliances into proactive helpers rather than passive tools. For us normal mortals that will possible mean machines remembering our favourite programmes and tracking our habits to help us. Fridges that may suggest recipes for the items we have inside them and early warning if an appliance is looking like it may develop a problem.
News to me was that 80% of dishwashes already use AI to optimize cleaning cycles, and if you are super techy then you can integrate your appliances with your smart home systems using – wait for it – AI.
However, whilst AI might be able to predict problems, I’m glad to see we will still need actual engineers to do the repair work. As with so many AI applications there is always the need for the complex abilities of the human brain that can think outside the box!
AI operates quietly; there are no flashing lights like the smart gadgets we have become used to. This raises privacy issues. And of course, AI enabled devices are going to come at a premium price, at least at first.
So, for now we can breath a sigh of relief and dream about having our own Metal Mickey to do all our washing and cleaning and cooking !
